The Order Of The Chattering Nuns

Don't miss Good Omens, by the great writer Neil Gaiman feature on Amazon Prime. I have read many of his novels but somehow missed this one — what an enjoyable ride.

If you are fiending to something to watch that's a little off the beaten path, yet devilishly satisfying. I recommend this over and over again. I can see this in a yearly rotation even if there is just this one season. Watching this made me run out at watch all things David Tennet and Micheal Sheen.

I am totally Team Crowley (Crowley is the wine drinker - Aziraphale drinks tea. Sides are a no brainer here.), but you get two for the price of one as Aziraphale and Crowly do come as a twinset.

Confession from a paranormal romance writer:

I hate horror movies.

My Short Story Is In Here

I am over the moon! My first published work has been sent out into the world. I am a member of Romance Writers of America. I joined this body of creatives a little while back, and it has been the best decision I have made for me. My journey with RWA led me to my local chapters. Finding them landed me in the anthology Love In The Lowcountry: A Winter Holiday Collection on sale now.

OK. Now I Am Just Bragging

Thank you to Author Y.M Nelson for suggesting a quick meet up for Bookstore Romance Day 2019. We trickled into Park Road Books in Charlotte on an August Saturday hot as hell afternoon. We have a great time. Those happy author faces belong to Adrienne Mishel, Cheris Hodges, Kennedy Ryan, and Y.M.Nelson are in the shot. Harper Ash was off to the side tender to a tiny one.

Do keep good company or what.

Ice Cream Ok It's Technically Gelato

I have kept my ice cream crazy pretty much in check. I didn't share the fried ice cream or the trips to specialty ice cream parlors. But this stopped me in my supermarket tracks. Layers! It looked amazing. Creamy, melty, goodness. YUM

The Queen Kenndey Ryan

I was there! I was sitting very far from the stage as you can tell by this blurry shot. I was all the way back at table 69. (We can discuss the table number later.) When they called out the 2019 RITA Award for Best Contemporary Romance Long... drumroll!

The winner is Kennedy Ryan.

The First Black Author to receive a RITA EVER!

The RITA Awards are like the OSCARS romance writers. It was an NYC night to remember.

The Minotaur

I started attending a writing group at the library. This particular session had us pulling poetry out of a basket. I picked this doozy the, Minotaur by Ted Hughes and had 10 minutes to come up with something and this is what I did. You deserve wine after this if you read it, I know I did, and I read it.

She sat in the gray rocking glider. Loop, slip, release, loop slip release, loop loop loop. The kettle sputtered whistled as the flow flame heated the full kettle for tea. Unhook, unslip – do it again. The pile of pink booties tucked neatly in the basket never to be worn right by her feet. The yard wrapped around her fingers that worked without direction. Another one was almost done, never to be worn. She stood, wrapped the belt around her, tightening the housecoat and shuffled into the small galley kitchen. She washed her hands, shaking off the excess water from her fingers. Helen pulled down the black chipped cup right next to the pink one. He turned it, again. Now the words would not show she pressed her lips and spun the pink cup around and the cheery happy 'First Mother’s Day' with its curly script condemned her, as it should. The soundtrack of 'It’s no one’s fault' from her friends and family played once again never to be believed.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by. I hope you enjoyed this 10-minute sprint that has been mildly edited for errors but not content.

An Afternoon of Wonder

It may look like I am stalking Beverly Jenkins, but can you blame me? She is a goddess that slays words. The woman is amazing. A Slayer of Words!

I attended M&M 2018, and I love this conference. It checks off all my boxes. I get to learn, work, play, and party with my writing tribe. It's a beautiful weekend that recharges my writing spirit. This year I went to RWA's national conference, which is M&M on steroids, so I thought I might have to forgo my trip to Georgia, trying to be fiscally responsible and all, but I'm so glad headed to the peach state this October.

Let me say if what I'm about to type didn't happen it still would have been a fantastic event. Ms. Beverly Jenkins was the Keynote speaker. I really wanted to make sure I got a good seat for her speech. I entered the banquet room early, and there she sat at the head table. I approached her in my most restrained fangirl way. I told you in a past blog post, how much she means to me and I asked if she'd sign a copy of Forbidden. When I am about to walk away, she invites me to sit at her table. Forevermore 2018 M&M will have been the most jaw-dropping event I have ever attended. My hero asked me to join her at the head table. It gets no better.

Thank you, Ms. Bev!

A Night of Wonder

As a writer of color, this was an extraordinary night for me. I sat amidst my romance, writing superheroes for the Ritas. If you're not familiar with this. As a writer of color, this was an extraordinary night for me. If you're not familiar with this award ceremony, think of it as the Oscars for romance writers. On this night Beverly Jenkins became the 2017 RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award recipient! She left no eye dry, and I thank her more than words can say.

Great Balls of Goodness

For me, there is no such thing as ice cream season. If there was a way to enjoy the cold, creamy goodness daily, nevermind it's impossible. SO let's go with occasionally. I'm not rich enough for a steadily increasing wardrobe. This June I have held out for ice cream because I am dying to try this new flavor my local boutique creamery has churned out. Peach Ginger ice cream - that sounds like the definition of a sweet, spicy cool treat.
